Vodka, Jello, and Girls

Since Vodka is considered flavorless and has a higher Alcohol By Volume (ABV) or Proof it tends to be the most popular liquor to use in jello shots. Vodka jello shots can be made in numerous ways. These include the quick and dirty method, were you substitute Vodka for some portion of the cold water when preparing jello. The second method is to maximize the quality of the flavor of your Vodka jello shots. This is accomplished by developing a Vodka jello shot recipe that mimics mixed drinks. Here at DailyDrinker.com we focus heavily on the second method.

How To Make Vodka Jello Shots

As was stated in the first paragraph there is more than one way to go about preparing jello shots with Vodka. We will have two sections the first being how to make quick and easy Vodka jello shots and the second section will be about how to make gourmet Vodka jello shots. Our hope is to meet everyone’s needs without wasting the others time. Just look for the heading that matches the route you would to participate in.

The Quick And Easy Way To Make Jello Shots With Vodka

For One 6oz box of Jell-O (Makes 18-20 shots)
1. Heat 1 cup of water to a rolling boil.
2. Add your favorite flavor of Jell-O to the boiling water in a clear bowl (use clear bowl to easly note when all Jell-O is dissoved).
3. Once all Jell-O is dissolved measure between ¾ of a cup (6oz) and 3 cups (24oz) of Vodka and pour it into the Jell-O and water mixture (less than 6oz is too weak more than 24oz will not set up).
4. Add cold water in an amount that makes the amount of Vodka you added and the water add up to 3 cups (24oz) of total fluid.
5. Add 1 teaspoon of flax seed oil. This will help the jello shots slide right out of the 2oz plastic portion cups with little coaxing needed. (Any of our recipes requiring that lemon or lime peel be muddled allows you to skip this step)
6. Stir all contents of bowl well.
7. Poor contents of bowl into 2oz plastic portion cups.
8. Once you have filled portion cups, place lids on them.
9. Then, put your Vodka and Jell-O filled cups into the fridge to allow them to set up. This usually takes 4-6 hours, but can be sped up some by using ice cubes in the cold water.

How To Make Gourmet Vodka Jello Shots

Most of the steps in making gourmet jello shots with Vodka are similar to those noted in the quick and easy version. All of the differences in preparing gourmet jello shot recipes is in planning out the recipe and then preparing the recipe. This adds one major step and then several mini steps that could be classified as one. When making gourmet Vodka jello shots replace the above directions with those points noted below.
1. The first step should be planning out your recipe. You do this by looking at a cocktail recipe and dividing the 3 cups of cold water into percentages of the components of a mixed drink recipe. So if it required 1 shot of mixer, ½ shot of Vodka and ½ shot of pucker then you would have 1 and ½ cups of mixer, ¾ cup of Vodka, and ¾ of a cup of pucker.
Then you would replace step 3 with the directions on how to prepare the mixture of liquors and mixers suggested by the mixed drinks recipe. Other than that you would follow the directions given in the quick and easy version of making jello shots with Vodka.

Jello Shots of every color

A Rainbow of Jello Shots

Jello shots have recently become legendary as many partygoers’ favorite way to consume liquor. A number of people who have never partaken in the jello shot experience may ask “what is so great about jello shots.” I believe the answer to be simple. Jello shots taste great and provide a visual treat to go along with the pleasant flavor on the tongue. This webpage has been created with the goal of introducing you to both quick and easy ways to make jello shots for your party and a set of gourmet jello shot recipes that have flavors which will likely make you a legend amongst your friends as a party host.

Items Needed To Make Jello Shots

-6oz of Jell-O brand gelatin desert (Makes 18-20 shots)
-Preferable a large clear bowl (We suggest a clear bowl so that you can see if all Jell-O is dissolved)
-A stirring utensil such as a wooden spoon or wire whisk
-A set of measuring cups to include ¼, ½, ¾, and one cup.
-A set of measuring spoons that includes a ¼, and ½ teaspoon measuring unit.
-2oz plastic portion cups (like those that come with take out – commonly found in liquor stores and restaurant supply stores)
-Flax seed oil
-Either your favorite type of alcohol or the mixers and alcohol types noted in our gourmet jello shot recipes.

How To Make Quick And Fast Jello Shots

For those of you who are looking for a simple way to make it easier to choke down some strong liquor use the directions below to prepare your party delights.

For One 6oz box of Jell-O (Makes 18-20 shots)
1. Heat 2 cups of water to a rolling boil.
2. Measure out 1 cup (8oz) of the boiling water and place it into your clear bowl.
3. Open your favorite flavor of Jell-O package and pour Jell-O into clear bowl while you stir with wire whisk or spoon.
4. Once all Jell-O is dissolved measure between ¾ of a cup (6oz) and 3 cups (24oz) of your favorite alcohol and pour it into the Jell-O and water mixture. Anything less than 6oz and the alcohol will be nearly undetectable. Any more than 3 cups of 70 proof liquor and your jello shots will net set up.
5. Add cold water in an amount that makes the amount of liquor you added and the water add up to 3 cups (24oz) of total fluid. If you use more than 24oz, your jello shots are likely to not set up.
6. Add ½ teaspoon of flax seed oil. This will help the jello shots slide right out of the 2oz plastic portion cups with little coaxing needed. Going this route rather than spraying the portion cups with PAM will make your jello shots taste better and prevent an oily Crisco like film from developing on the roof of your mouth. And using flax seed oil lets you tell people they are healthy because they include Omega 3 fatty acids. Ok, maybe you shouldn’t say they are healthy since they include alcohol. (Any of our recipes requiring that lemon or lime peel be muddled allows you to skip this step)
7. Stir all contents of bowl well.
8. Poor contents of bowl into 2oz plastic portion cups.
9. Once you have filled portion cups, place lids on them.
10. Then, put your Jell-O filled cups into the fridge to allow them to set up. This usually takes 4-6 hours, but can be sped up some by using ice cubes as part of the cold water.

Liquor and Jell-O Flavor Matches

Vodka— Since Vodka is nearly flavorless any flavor of Jell-O makes a decent pairing to make Vodka jello shots. The flavored or infused Vodkas that match the Jell-O flavor make the best party treats.
Tequila— Lime, Lemon, Watermelon, Strawberry
Rum— Strawberry, Watermelon, Orange, Peach, Pineapple
Gin— Lime, Lemon, Orange, Tropical Fusion
Brandy— Cherry, Orange
Everclear— Everything but Grape Jell-O, for some reason the grain after flavor of the Everclear makes the grape version taste bad.
Whisky— Lime, Lemon, Cherry, Peach

There are a number of other liquors that would taste good in jello shots like all the different flavors of Puckers and even Irish Crème Liquor like Bailey’s. We didn’t do any specific single liquor pairings for these, as they are generally used in mixed drinks, and we have built an entire section of gourmet jello shots that mimic the mixed drinks recipes. You can find those further below under the Gourmet Jello Shot Recipes heading.

Jello Shot Recipes

Green Managuinse Jello Shot Recipe

This is a Jello shot recipe based on a drink that I made up when I had a really cool fish tank at home. It doesn’t taste like fish, it’s named after the meanest fish that I had in the tank at the time. The drink recipe has everything green in it that I could get my hands on while I was behind the bar. It is very strong on the apple flavors and easily makes the transition from drink to Jello shot.

1 6 oz box green apple Jello
1 cup boiling water
1/2 cup Smirnoff Green Apple Twist Vodka
1/2 cup Midori Melon Liquer
1/2 cup Apple Pucker
1/2 cup Rose’s Lime Juice
1 cup Mountain Dew

Candied Apple Jello Shot Recipe

Candied Apple Jello Shot: Made With Apple Pucker & Cinnamon Schnapps

I have made this Jello shot recipe as a drink shot many times, I’ve tried it with Goldschlager, and 100 proof hot damn. I think the Hot Damn version tastes better, so that’s what I’m going to use in the Jello shot. Hope you like it and keep coming back for more Jello shot recipes in the future.

1 cup green apple Jello
1 cup boiling water
3/4 cup apple pucker
3/4 cup 100 proof Hot Damn

3/4 cup apple juice

Mandarin and Tonic Jello Shot Recipe

Vodka Jello Shot Recipe: Mandarin and Tonic

This falls in the category of Jello shot recipes I came up with for me. Tonic water is an aquired taste. If you don’t like tonic, don’t waste your liquor on this Jello shot recipe. I have sent back countless numbers of drinks when I wanted vodka and soda and either the person who ordered the drink for me ordered wrong or the bartender hit the wrong button on the mixer gun. One time the bar was too busy to give the drink back so I drank it. By the end of the night I was won over to the tonic flavor. I decided I needed to make this drink into a Jello shot just so the next time I bring a bunch of Jello shots to a party I’ll have my own private stash.

1 cup orange Jello
1 cup boiling water
1 1/2 cups Absolut Mandarin Vodka
1 1/2 cups Tonic Water
