Mai Tai Jello Shot Recipe

Mai Tai’s have many different recipes that I have seen. Basically they have a bunch of different kinds of rum and a bunch of juice in them. I heard that if you put grenadine in a Mai Tai in Hawaii you’ll get slapped upside the head, so I don’t put it in mine. Here is my adaptation of a Mai Tai to the Jello shot recipe world.

1 6oz. box of orange or pineapple Jello
1 cup boiling water
½ cup Bacardi Light rum
½ cup Bacardi Dark rum
¼ cup Malibu Coconut rum
¼ cup Captain Morgan’s spiced rum
½ cup orange juice
½ cup pineapple juice
½ cup cranberry juice

Dissolve Jello in boiling water. Add all the rum, and all the juice and stir gently with a large serving spoon. You can use the old wooden spoon your mom used to beat you with if you want to. As long as you can remember where you hid it from her all those years ago, don’t use a wire whip or you’ll get air bubbles in them. Pour the mixture into 2 oz plastic portion cups. You should get 16-18 shots out of one recipe. Don’t put cooking spray in the cups first. Rubbing your tongue on the roof of your mouth is not supposed to feel like you ate a spoon full of Crisco after eating Jello shots. I guess if you’re in to that sort of thing, go ahead. Ruin your Jello.

Raspberry Watermelon Jello Shot and Martini

Here’s something different, it’s a Jello shot recipe that got turned into a martini. Pretty cool, huh? I was making a batch of Jello shots for a bar I was working at, pretty early in my creative process. I tried a few of the shots when I got off work, and decided it needed to be a drink. I tried out the drink on the rocks first, but it wasn’t quite right, so I chilled it and put it in a martini glass. Drink or Jello shot recipe first? Don’t know what I’m asking you for you won’t be able to answer until after this is posted, so I’ll list them in the order I invented them in.

1 6oz box raspberry Jello
1 cup boiling water
1 cup Absolut Raspberry Vodka
¾ cup Watermelon Pucker
¼ cup Chambord
½ cup cranberry juice
½ cup sweet and sour mix

Dissolve Jello in boiling water. Add vodka, Pucker, Chambord, cranberry and sweet and sour. Stir gently with a serving spoon until well mixed, but stop before you get air bubbles in it. Pour Jello into 2 oz portion cups, and refrigerate for 2 to 3 hours until they set up. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, here’s the recipe for the martini I turned this into.

1 shot Absolut raspberry
¾ shot watermelon pucker
½ shot Chambord
splash cranberry
splash sweet and sour

Pour all ingredients into a shaker full of ice. Shake the hell out of it until the shaker is almost too cold to hold on to anymore, and strain into a martini glass. Garnish by dropping a fresh raspberry in the bottom of the glass and put a small wedge of watermelon on the rim of the glass. This drink smells fantastic if you use Absolut. I think it tastes a little better with Raspberry Stoli, but the nose part of the experience suffers greatly.

My sister had a kick ass idea while we were making the video for this, and I think she changed the recipe.  Instead of a 6 oz box of raspberry jello, use 1 3 oz box of raspberry and 1 3 oz box of watermelon.

Jello Shot Recipes

Cherry Cheesecake Jello Shot

This one is my last roommate’s favorite Jello shot I ever made up. It’s called a cherry cheesecake. It’s quite tasty, and the Bailey’s in it changes the texture of the Jello making it a little more interesting than your run of the mill Jello shots.

1 6 oz. box cherry Jello
1 cup boiling water
1¼ cups Smirnoff vanilla twist vodka
¾ cup Bailey’s Irish Cream
1 cup cranberry juice

Dissolve Jello in boiling water. Add the vodka and cranberry juice and stir until well mixed with a large serving spoon. Let the mixture cool closer to room temperature for 10 minutes or so. I added the Bailey’s when the Jello was still kind of hot the first time I made these, and it curdled. Add the Bailey’s and pour the mix into 2 oz. portion cups with a pitcher, or measuring cup. My favorite measuring cup for this is one of those that is used for separating the floating grease from chicken stock. The pour spout comes out of the bottom of the cup, I don’t seem to spill as much with them. You can actually use a wire whip to stir these if you want to cuz the Bailey’s is going to make bubbles in the Jello no matter what you do. Still no cooking spray in the portion cups. It’s Jello, it’s not supposed to be greasy. It’s not that hard to get the shot out of the cup with your tongue. If you do have trouble with it you need the practice anyway. Enjoy the Jello, there will be more later.

Katie’s Underwear Jello Shot Recipe

I heard a top three list on the radio in Pittsburgh, it was the top three things Steve Douglas(the dad on My Three Sons)didn’t want to hear on his birthday. One of them was Uncle Charley screaming from the bathroom “Look, Steve, I’m wearin’ Katie’s underwear!!” I thought Katie’s underwear was a good name for a drink, so I made one up.

1 shot Absolut Mandarin
½ shot peach schnaaps
Equal parts oj and cran
½ shot strawberry daiquiri mix

Pour the first four ingredients in a pint glass full of ice and float the daiquiri mix on the top. Garnish with an orange wheel, and half a strawberry. This has since evolved into a Jello shot in my brain, and I figured I’d share it with everyone here.

1 6 oz box orange Jello
1 cup boiling water
1 cup Absolut Mandarin
½ cup peach schnaaps
½ cup oj
½ cup cran
½ cup strawberry daiquiri mix

Dissolve Jello in boiling water. Add vodka, schnaaps, juice, and daiquiri mix. Mix thoroughly with a serving spoon and pour into 2 oz plastic portion cups using anything you can find in your kitchen that has a pour spout on it. As always, no wire whip for stirring because of the air bubbles, and no pam on the portion cups, cuz that’s just nasty.

Margarita Jello Shot Recipe

This is a Jello shot recipe I came up with after the hundredth time someone put tequila in a box of lime Jello and told me it was a margarita flavored one. As I’ve previously mentioned I am fed up with that shit. A margarita is not tequila and lime juice, it has a recipe with more ingredients…USE THEM!!!!

1 6 oz. box lime flavored Jello

1 cup boiling water

1 cup tequila

½ cup triple sec

¼ cup Rose’s lime juice

1 ¼ cup sweet and sour mix

Dissolve Jello in boiling water. Add tequila, triple sec, lime juice, and sweet and sour. Stir gently with a serving spoon until thoroughly mixed. Remember, no wire whips this isn’t a recipe for bondage and leather, plus the whole air bubble thing. Put the whole mixture in a pitcher or measuring cup with a pour spout and pour into 2 oz. portion cups. Do not coat the cups with cooking spray they’re jello shots, not fuckin’ muffins. Once they are portioned, put them in the refrigerator for 2-3 hours to set up. Enjoy, there will be more tomorrow.

Gourmet Strawberry Lemonade Jello Shots

This is an idea I came up with after seeing George Thorogood at a county fair.  It was during a heat wave in August, and there wasn’t a beer garden at the fair, so I must have had five or six strawberry lemonades at the Hot Dog on a Stick booth.  A few days later, I went to a BBQ at a buddy’s house where I was assigned the task of bringing the Jello shots. I am fed up with people making Jell-O shots that are just liquor, water, and Jell-o and acting like they make the best ones in the world.  This is the first in a long line of Jello shot recipes I have come up with that actually are the best ones ever.

1-6oz box Strawberry Jell-O

1 cup hot water

1½ cup Citrus Vodka

1  cups sweet and sour mix

¼ cup strawberry puree or strawberry daiquiri mix

1 sliced lemon

Dissolve Jell-O in hot water.  Pour citrus vodka into a drink shaker with ice and sliced lemon and muddle the bejesus out of it for a minute or two then strain the liquid into the dissolved Jell-o mixture.  Add the sweet and sour mix and strawberry puree and stir gently with a serving spoon until all ingredients are well mixed.  Do not use a wire whip for this step, or you will get air bubbles in the mix. This is a pain in the ass, and they won’t go away.  When the Jell-O sets, the bubbles will still be in there taking up space in the portion cup.  Once you have all the ingredients mixed well, put them in a pitcher or measuring cup with a pour spout and pour into two ounce plastic portion cups. Don’t line the cups with cooking spray to keep the shots from sticking, it tastes nasty and just shouldn’t be done. You should get between 16 and 18 shots from this recipe.
